When practicing medical massage, I combine Eastern and Western modalities of manual manipulation to assess and treat acute and chronic pain. Appointments usually begin with a basic assessment to determine which mode of treatment will be most effective to relieve pain and discomfort. Techniques include Swedish massage, Shiatsu, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, reflexology, polarity, and trigger point release. Medical massage is applied both directly to an injured area and/or surrounding areas in cases of referred pain.
Results are assessed using clinical measurements, range of motion tests, pain abatement, and client feedback. For the most effective treatment, repeated sessions are usually necessary. Not all pain can be cured, but medical massage can help to effectively manage pain.
